HOMECOMING
John Lewis was a notable figure who dedicated his life to justice and the prosperity of black people in America. To honor and perpetuate the fight he participated in during the civil rights era, we created a space that nourishes black people, neighborhoods, and culture. Staggering rates of deforestation and tree canopy coverage in the area encouraged the emphasis of environmental concerns. In response, greenery acts as a propagating factor, leading to “Homecoming” - to be grounded, much like John Lewis. With adjacent sprawling historical sites to visit in the day and active nightlife; our supplemental time-share program: native plant greenhouse by day, “social garden” by night, is known to heal both spiritually and mentally.
The multi-purpose program grounds occupants and the community through the importance of plants and socialization/celebration. It is where one can reflect and appreciate history whilst also exploring the present, in a cyclical manner.
